US President Donald Trump has confirmed he personally requested that London Mayor Sadiq Khan not be invited to the state banquet hosted by King Charles during Trump’s recent official visit to the United Kingdom.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump described Khan as “among the worst mayors in the world,” criticizing his record on crime and immigration and claiming London’s crime rates are “through the roof”.
Trump stated, “I didn’t want him there. I asked for him not to be there… I don’t want that.” He further claimed Khan had shown interest in attending the high-profile banquet but was excluded at Trump’s request. Sources close to Khan responded by saying the mayor neither sought nor expected an invitation, adding that Trump’s politics foster “fear and division”.
This latest exchange intensifies the years-long feud between Trump and Khan, marked by repeated public criticism. Khan has characterized Trump’s rhetoric as divisive, while Trump continues to denounce Khan’s leadership in London, especially regarding law and order.
