The FBI has identified the man suspected of shooting at former U.S. President Donald Trump as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred during a rally in Pennsylvania, where Secret Service agents swiftly protected Trump after multiple gunshots were fired. Trump was quickly taken off stage and transported to a waiting vehicle. He has since returned home to New Jersey. He is reportedly “doing well,” expressing his gratitude to law enforcement officers in a statement published on the Republican National Committee (RNC) website.
The FBI is treating the incident as an assassination attempt on Trump. In a post on his Truth Social network, Trump revealed that a bullet had pierced the “upper part” of his right ear. Blood was visible on Trump’s ear and face as protection officers rushed him away.
The FBI confirmed that the investigation is “active and ongoing.” Pennsylvania police have assured the public that there are no further threats following the shooting. The suspect was shot dead at the scene by a U.S. Secret Service sniper, according to agency spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi.
