President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his tough stance on illegal immigration, promising to hold sanctuary cities accountable for harboring undocumented immigrants with criminal records. These cities, which limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities, have long been a point of contention in the national immigration debate.
Trump argues that sanctuary city policies put American citizens in danger by allowing violent offenders to remain in the country instead of facing deportation. To address this, Trump has vowed to withhold federal funding from cities that refuse to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The president also plans to reinstate and expand programs like “Secure Communities,” which facilitate the identification and removal of undocumented criminals. Critics of sanctuary city policies point to cases where undocumented immigrants with prior convictions were released, leading to further crimes.
