A disagreement has emerged between California officials and President Donald Trump over water resources. Trump claimed on Truth Social that the US military entered California and released a large flow of water from the Pacific Northwest. However, California officials denied this, stating that the military did not enter the state.
Instead, the California Department of Water Resources explained that the federal government restarted federal water pumps after a three-day maintenance period. The agency also assured that state water supplies in Southern California remain plentiful.
This exchange follows Trump’s visit to fire-ravaged areas of Los Angeles and his signing of an executive order to deliver more water and resources to Southern California. Trump also signed an order to redirect water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, which has raised concerns about environmental protections for the endangered smelt fish.
