Chicago – March 01, 2026

India’s position on the Israel–Palestine conflict has evolved significantly over the decades. Historically a strong supporter of the Palestinian cause — recognizing the Palestine Liberation Organization in the 1970s — New Delhi formally established diplomatic ties with Israel in 1992. Since then, strategic interests have deepened cooperation in defense, agriculture, and technology.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, relations with Israel have become more visible, marked by high-level visits and expanded security partnerships. At the same time, India continues to voice support for a two-state solution and humanitarian relief for Gaza Strip.

Analysts say the shift reflects pragmatic foreign policy: balancing energy ties with Arab states, counterterrorism priorities, and growing economic links with Israel. Why it matters is clear — India’s stance influences Global South diplomacy and reflects its broader strategy of multi-alignment in a rapidly polarizing world.
