Chicago – November 04, 2025

Dick Cheney, the influential former US vice president known for his decisive role in shaping American foreign policy after the September 11 attacks, has died at 84. His family confirmed his passing on Tuesday, saying he died peacefully at his home in Wyoming surrounded by family.

Serving as vice president from 2001 to 2009 under President George W. Bush, Cheney was considered one of the most powerful figures to ever hold the office. He steered key decisions in the Bush administration, particularly the controversial 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Critics say Cheney’s insistence on the existence of weapons of mass destruction, which were never found, led the United States into a costly and unnecessary war that destabilized the Middle East and claimed thousands of lives.

Though celebrated by supporters for his firm stance on national security, Cheney faced enduring condemnation for his role in authorizing harsh interrogation tactics and expanding executive power. His death closes the chapter on one of America’s most divisive political legacies.
