Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a public apology to neighboring countries for recent missile and drone strikes launched during Tehran’s ongoing war with Israel and the United States.
Speaking on state television on March 6-7, 2026, Pezeshkian, a member of Iran’s interim three-man leadership council following Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s death in a February 28 airstrike, stated, “I should apologize to the neighboring countries that were attacked by Iran, on my own behalf.”
He pledged no further attacks unless assaults on Iran originate from those territories, urging diplomacy to resolve tensions. However, Gulf states including Saudi Arabia reported intercepting additional Iranian missiles shortly after, highlighting ongoing volatility. The conflict, now in its second week, has rattled global markets amid U.S. President Donald Trump’s demands for unconditional surrender, which Pezeshkian dismissed.
Pezeshkian’s remarks signal potential de-escalation efforts with Gulf neighbors, even as Israeli and U.S. airstrikes continue targeting Iranian sites.
