In Washington and Oregon, two ballot boxes were set on fire early Monday morning, possibly ruining hundreds of votes. This incident comes just days before the upcoming Election Day.
Around 3:30 a.m., the Portland Police Bureau checked out a fire in Portland’s Buckman neighborhood. Security workers in the area had already put out the fire when police arrived. They discovered something used to start the fire and called it an act of arson.
At the same time, over in Vancouver, Washington, their police also dealt with a similar situation. They arrived at a burning ballot box at 4 a.m. and noticed smoke and a suspicious item near the box.
The local police are working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate both fires. The FBI has not said if these fires are considered acts of domestic terrorism.
During a press conference, Greg Kimsey, the Clark County auditor, mentioned that many ballots were destroyed in the Vancouver fire.
