Chicago – November 11, 2024
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris made their first public appearance together since the election at a Veterans Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
During the event, they paid their respects by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This solemn moment was marked by the national anthem and the playing of “Taps.”
Afterwards, President Biden spoke at the cemetery’s memorial amphitheater. He expressed gratitude to America’s military veterans and their families, recognizing their sacrifices. He reassured them of his and the First Lady’s ongoing commitment to fulfill their duties to these families.
Before attending the ceremony, President Biden and the First Lady hosted military community members at the White House. They were joined by Vice President Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, for the trip to the cemetery, which is located just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C.
This event also marked the first public appearance of Biden and Harris since Vice President Harris’s recent electoral loss to former President Donald Trump. President Biden is scheduled to meet with President-elect Trump at the White House soon.
