President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will meet with the U.S. team responsible for negotiating hostage releases in the White House Situation Room on Monday. This meeting comes after the tragic death of six hostages, including an American named Hersh Goldberg-Polin, at the hands of Hamas this past Saturday.
The meeting aims to discuss and advance efforts to secure the freedom of the remaining hostages. The discussion will be private, with no press allowed.
In Israel, news of the killings sparked large protests. Around 500,000 people gathered on Sunday in cities like Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The demonstrators expressed deep frustration and anger towards the Israeli government for not securing a ceasefire that would free the remaining 101 hostages. Many called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to intensify efforts to bring the hostages home.
