Chicago – November 10, 2024
President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump are set to meet next Wednesday in the Oval Office. This meeting comes after a period of tension between the two, highlighted by Trump not attending Biden’s inauguration and making false claims about the 2020 election results.
Biden, who had previously criticized Trump as a danger to democracy, has now invited Trump to the White House, marking a significant step towards a smoother presidential transition.
Four years ago, the transition between Trump and Biden was filled with disputes, as Trump did not formally concede his loss. Despite these past issues, Biden has extended a gesture of goodwill by congratulating Trump on his recent election victory, inviting him to the White House, and promising to attend his inauguration in January.
The upcoming meeting, announced for 11:00 a.m. by Biden’s press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, aims to mend some of the formalities typically associated with changes in the presidency. In their recent phone conversation, Biden expressed a commitment to a peaceful transition and the importance of uniting the country.
Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, stated that Trump appreciates the invitation and looks forward to the meeting.
