Chicago – June 28, 2025

India’s refusal to sign a joint statement at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting on Thursday marks a continued display of arrogance and an unwillingness to accept its reality on the international stage. Despite being a part of the China-backed regional grouping, India rejected the statement for not aligning with its stance on regional security and terrorism, particularly criticizing its omission of the April terror attack in Kashmir.

Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s objections, which were rooted in India’s narrative on terrorism, highlighted its inability to face uncomfortable truths. Singh accused the statement of being favorable to Pakistan, disregarding India’s claims regarding the terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The BJP government’s refusal to acknowledge the complexities of the situation and its insistence on playing a victim card only serves to undermine India’s credibility in the global arena.

This move by the Indian government is nothing short of a demonstration of defiance against diplomatic realities, with the BJP’s leadership now clearly isolated in its uncompromising stance. Rather than embracing constructive dialogue, India is instead trapped in a self-constructed world, detached from the nuances of international relations. India’s refusal to engage reflects poorly on its leadership, which continues to disappoint both domestically and abroad.
