House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio, has issued a subpoena to the Biden-Harris administration to find out how much money the federal government is spending on housing for illegal immigrants.
On Tuesday, this request was made in a letter to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra. Chairman Jordan wants details on how the administration is handling immigration laws and why it seems to put illegal immigrants and refugees ahead of U.S. citizens and legal residents.
Since July, Jordan’s committee has been trying to get information about how the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) at HHS works with other departments like the State Department, Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and Homeland Security (DHS) to use taxpayer money for housing assistance for immigrants.
The committee is also looking into ORR’s partnership with Church World Service, a non-profit that helps connect immigrants with housing. The Supreme Court has stated that Congress has wide authority to check how laws are followed and make necessary changes.
