Chicago – July 27, 2024
Kassidy Cook and Sarah Bacon won silver in the women’s 3-meter synchronized springboard event on Saturday, earning America’s first medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The pair scored 314.64 over five dives, making it the first time since 2012 that Americans have medaled in this event. They were between China’s Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen, who won gold with a score of 337.68, and Great Britain’s Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen, who took bronze with 302.28.
Cook and Bacon, nicknamed Cook N’ Bacon, said their long friendship and teamwork helped them succeed. They have been friends since childhood and started diving together in 2019. Both believe that missing the Tokyo Olympics led to a better outcome in Paris.
