Chicago – March 03, 2025

Egypt has created a new plan for Gaza as an alternative to a controversial idea from former U.S. President Donald Trump. Egypt’s proposal, which will be discussed at an Arab League meeting, suggests removing Hamas from power and replacing it with a temporary governing body supported by Arab, Muslim, and Western nations.

Unlike Trump’s plan, which involved removing Palestinians from Gaza, Egypt’s proposal does not force people out of their homes. However, it does not say when or how the changes would happen. It also does not explain how to handle Hamas, which is still strong in the region.

Under Egypt’s plan, a “Governance Assistance Mission” would take over from Hamas for a temporary period. This group would help bring humanitarian aid and begin rebuilding Gaza, which has suffered massive destruction from the war.

Arab nations, including Egypt, Jordan, and Gulf states, have been working together to stop Trump’s plan. They believe forcing Palestinians to leave would be a serious security risk. While Egypt’s proposal is considered the most likely alternative, it still leaves big questions unanswered, such as who will pay for rebuilding and how Gaza will be governed in the long term.

For now, Hamas has rejected any plan that is decided by other countries. The future of Gaza remains uncertain as leaders continue to negotiate.
