Authorities in Washington, D.C., evacuated the area surrounding the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters following a turbulent pro-Palestinian rally on Wednesday night.
Capitol Police arrested several people during the demonstration, which they described as violent, with about 150 protesters involved.
Capitol Police reported that the demonstrators have dispersed, but officers remained at the scene as a precaution. They also treated six of their own for injuries incurred during the protest. Additionally, one individual was arrested on charges of assaulting an officer.
Due to the unrest, access to nearby House office buildings was restricted as a safety measure. A DNC spokesperson stated that they were closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with both the U.S. Capitol Police and Metro Police, who were leading the security efforts.
Several lawmakers were present inside the DNC headquarters when the protest broke out. The situation is still being watched by authorities, and security measures are in place to ensure the safety of all involved.
