What is the Met Gala?
The Met Gala, an iconic annual fashion event, has been organized by Anna Wintour since 1995. It serves as a fundraiser for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and is celebrated with a grand gala each year. The event coincides with the opening of the museum’s spring fashion exhibition, and it raises millions of dollars annually.
When is the Met Gala 2025?
The Met Gala 2025 will take place on Monday, May 5, in New York City, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
What is the Theme for the Met Gala 2025?
The theme for the 2025 Met Gala will be based on the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, which will run from May 10 to October 26, 2025. Titled Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, the exhibition will focus on the concept of Black dandyism. It will explore how clothing and style play a vital role in shaping Black identities across the Atlantic diaspora.
This will be the first Costume Institute exhibition dedicated solely to menswear since 2003’s Men in Skirts. Inspired by Monica Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the exhibit will highlight the political and aesthetic significance of Black dandyism, from the 18th century to the present day, through garments, paintings, photographs, and other art forms.
