Chicago – October 05, 2024
On Saturday, thousands of people in cities around the world protested to mark the upcoming first anniversary of the conflict in Gaza.
Major demonstrations took place in cities like London, Paris, Rome, Manila, and Cape Town, with protesters calling for an end to the violence.
In London, approximately 40,000 demonstrators showed their support for Palestine, while some pro-Israel supporters also displayed their flags during the marches.
The police reported 15 arrests at these events without specifying which group the arrested individuals were affiliated with.
The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian group Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel, resulting in 1,200 deaths and about 250 hostages, according to Israel.
The ongoing conflict has led to nearly 42,000 deaths in Gaza, as reported by Gaza’s health ministry, and has displaced most of the 2.3 million people living there.
In Rome, tensions escalated as police used tear gas and water cannons after clashes occurred during the protests.
Despite a ban, around 6,000 people marched through the city center ahead of the conflict’s anniversary.
