Vice President Kamala Harris recently spoke out about changing Senate rules to make it easier to pass certain laws, including one that would protect abortion rights federally.
This idea aligns with several Democratic senators who are up for re-election and support changing these rules. Last year, Senators Jon Tester, Sherrod Brown, Bob Casey, Tammy Baldwin, and Jacky Rosen all voted to simplify the process of passing a bill on federal voting requirements using just a majority vote.
Harris, who used to be a senator, shared her views on a Wisconsin Public Radio program this week, suggesting that the filibuster rule, which requires 60 votes to move a bill forward, should be removed for legislation related to the Roe v. Wade decision.
This decision historically allowed abortion rights nationwide. Following her comments, Senator Joe Manchin, who is an Independent from West Virginia, stated on Fox News that he would not support Harris if she ran for president, citing disagreement with her stance.
