Ratan Tata, the esteemed former chairman of Tata Sons, passed away on October 09 at 86. His death was confirmed by the current Tata Sons chairman, N. Chandrasekaran, who expressed profound respect and admiration for Tata, describing him as a mentor and friend.
Tata was known for his visionary leadership and philanthropy, which significantly impacted industry and society.
Under his leadership, Tata Sons, India’s oldest conglomerate, made significant strides globally, acquiring major international companies such as British tea company Tetley, Anglo-Dutch steelmaker Corus, and the luxury car brands Jaguar and Land Rover.
Tata was also pivotal in the commercial aviation sector in India, relaunching Air India under the Tata banner.
Tata’s contributions extended beyond business. He was deeply committed to philanthropy, with much of Tata Sons’ profits channelled into charitable trusts.
Recognized with several of India’s highest civilian awards, including the Padma Vibhushan, Tata’s legacy is marked by his ethical business practices and humanitarian efforts.
