In an eagerly anticipated showdown at Stade de France on Thursday (August 8), Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem will meet in the men’s javelin final of the Paris Olympics 2024. Neeraj showcased his peak form by leading the qualifications with a throw of 89.34 meters, marking his best of the season.
The Indian athlete, known for his career-best of 89.94 metres in the 2022 Stockholm Diamond League, seeks to surpass the 90-metre milestone. Having clinched gold at the Tokyo Olympics with an 87.58-metre throw, Neeraj aims to defend his title amid high expectations from India.
Arshad Nadeem secured fourth place in the qualification round with his season-best throw of 86.59 meters. Only Neeraj, Anderson Peters of Grenada, and Julian Webber of Germany surpassed his performance. Arshad, who is one of two Asian athletes who have achieved throws over 90 meters, previously won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a best throw of 90.18 meters.
