Vice President Kamala Harris will interview three top candidates for her running mate at her Washington, D.C. residence on Sunday. The candidates are Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, U.S. Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
Harris is expected to announce her choice on Monday and make her first public appearance with the new vice presidential nominee on Tuesday in Philadelphia, according to Reuters. The Harris campaign also plans to announce the decision on social media.
On Saturday, Harris met with her vetting team, including former attorney general Eric Holder. Holder’s law firm, Covington & Burling LLP, checked the finances and background of the potential running mates. Harris received detailed presentations on each finalist.
Harris also met with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for 90 minutes on Friday and is holding virtual meetings with other candidates. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker are also being considered. The final candidates will be informed of the decision by Monday night or Tuesday morning.
