Bushra Mateen, a student from Raichur, Karnataka, has set a new record at Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) by winning 16 gold medals. She is a recent graduate in civil engineering from SLN College and received her medals during the 21st annual convocation of VTU.
This achievement comes at a significant time, as there has been a ban on wearing the hijab in educational institutions in Karnataka, which the Karnataka High Court upheld.
VTU’s Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Karisiddappa, acknowledged Mateen’s remarkable success, noting that she broke the previous record of 13 medals. She received notable medals, such as the SG Balekundri gold medal and the Murthy’s Medal of Excellence. Additionally, Mateen was awarded two cash prizes.
Congress leader N.S Boseraju also recognised her exceptional performance and visited her home to celebrate her achievements in what he described as a historic moment for Kalyana Karnataka.
