For the first time in its 1,000-year history, Windsor Castle hosted an open Iftar event in its State Apartments.
On Sunday, more than 350 people gathered in St George’s Hall to break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan. One attendee described the atmosphere as “amazing” and said, “it just doesn’t feel real.”
During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, refraining from eating or drinking. The free Iftar event was organized by the London-based charity, Ramadan Tent Project.
Simon Maples, visitor operations director at Windsor Castle, shared that King Charles III has long been a supporter of religious diversity and promoting interfaith dialogue. St George’s Hall is usually reserved for hosting heads of state and special royal banquets.
On Sunday, the call to prayer echoed throughout the hall, signaling the moment to break the fast. Attendees ate dates, said prayers, and then enjoyed a meal. For those who participated, it was an unforgettable experience in the King’s historic home.
Iftar events like this are taking place across the UK throughout Ramadan and are open to everyone, no matter their faith or background.
