King Charles will host U.S. President Donald Trump for a full state visit to the United Kingdom later this year, Buckingham Palace confirmed. The formal invitation, known as the “Manu Regia,” was hand-delivered to the White House last week by British embassy officials, marking the start of official planning for the visit.
While no exact dates have been announced, September is widely expected as the likely timeframe.
Earlier this year, King Charles had proposed an informal meeting with Trump in Scotland during the summer, either at Dumfries House or Balmoral, before the official visit. However, scheduling conflicts between the two leaders have made this private meeting impossible, a situation understood and accepted by all parties involved.
This upcoming visit will be unprecedented, as it marks the second state visit by a sitting U.S. president to the UK in modern history.
Trump was previously hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2019 during his first term. Buckingham Palace noted that King Charles has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to welcoming him and the First Lady later this year.
