Chicago – August 26, 2024
The National Conference (NC) and the Congress have agreed on a seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. The NC will contest 51 seats, while Congress will take 32 seats. Additionally, one seat each has been allocated to their allies, the CPI(M) and the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP).
The decision was announced after a day of negotiations at NC President Farooq Abdullah’s residence, where leaders from both parties held a joint press conference. The alliance also mentioned there will be a “friendly contest” on five seats in the Union Territory.
NC President Farooq Abdullah emphasized that the alliance aims to stand against forces trying to divide the people, both in Jammu and Kashmir and across the country. AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal stated that the partnership is focused on safeguarding the “soul” of Jammu and Kashmir and the nation. The specific seats and candidates will be revealed later.
