The National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have started discussions with the Congress central leadership about allying the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, according to Tariq Hameed Karra, the newly-appointed Congress state unit chief. Speaking to reporters, Karra confirmed that the NC has already approached the Congress leadership for talks on a potential alliance.
He also mentioned that while discussions with the PDP have occurred, they are still in the early stages. Karra, who recently took on his new role, received a warm welcome upon his return from New Delhi. He expressed confidence that if the regional parties, which are part of the opposition INDIA bloc, continue to work together, they will be successful in the elections.
The Congress is open to alliances with all like-minded parties, whether from Jammu or Kashmir. The Congress has established a five-member committee to explore alliance possibilities and capitalize on the positive momentum created by Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.
