Former President Obama is using TikTok to encourage voter registration, especially targeting young Americans. On National Voter Registration Day, Obama interviewed Carlos Espina, a 25-year-old TikTok influencer with 10.5 million followers, according to Axios. Espina has also appeared with President Biden and Vice President Harris on TikTok before. Obama’s goal is to motivate viewers to visit IWillVote.com to register and make a plan for Election Day.
This initiative is part of a larger effort by Democrats to reach about 30 million potential voters through non-traditional methods. The Harris-Walz campaign is also focusing on young voters by pushing registration efforts online and on college campuses in key battleground states.
This voter push comes as TikTok’s attorneys recently faced the U.S. government in court, arguing against a possible ban due to national security concerns. The Justice Department wants the platform to address these risks.
