Chicago – October 17, 2024
President Joe Biden has announced canceling another $4.5 billion in student debt for over 60,000 borrowers.
This brings the total number of public service workers who’ve had their student loans forgiven to more than one million.
This action is part of Biden’s ongoing effort to keep his 2020 promise of providing debt relief to Americans.
Vice President Kamala Harris criticized Republicans for blocking debt relief, saying, “I will continue our work to lower costs, make higher education more affordable, and relieve the burden of student debt.”
So far, the Biden-Harris Administration has approved $175 billion in student loan relief for nearly 5 million people.
The White House argues that the student loan system is broken and that relief is needed to help those seeking higher education.
