Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge will meet with senior West Bengal functionaries in Delhi on Monday to choose the state’s next president following the end of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s tenure.
Those called to Delhi include Chowdhury, former state presidents Pradip Bhattacharya and Abdul Mannan, and senior leaders Deepa Dasmunsi, Amitabha Chakraborty, Nepal Mahato, Manoj Chakraborty, and Isha Khan Choudhury, the only Lok Sabha member from Bengal, who won the Malda South seat in the recent polls.
Mannan informed the party that he cannot attend Monday’s meeting due to health issues.
Chowdhury, who has won the Berhampore Lok Sabha seat in Murshidabad district five times since 1999, was recently defeated by former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan, fielded by Trinamool Congress (TMC) chairperson Mamata Banerjee.
Earlier, Congress general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal asked senior state leaders to share their opinions on the leadership issue via email or text messages.
