Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, criticized the Indian government on Sunday, stating that recent attacks on minorities, particularly Muslims, are happening because the current government has not been strict enough. This statement was in response to two violent incidents involving Muslim men in Haryana and Maharashtra, where they were attacked over suspicions of eating or carrying beef.
In Haryana, a young man named Sabir Malik, who was 22 years old, was killed on August 27 in Charkhi Dadri district. Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, police filed a report against several men who assaulted a 72-year-old on a train headed to Mumbai because they thought he was carrying beef. However, it turned out he was carrying buffalo meat, which is allowed.
Gandhi expressed his concern on social media, saying that those in power are using hatred to govern and are allowing fear to spread unchecked across the country. He added that violent groups are acting out without fear of the law while the government does not take sufficient action.
