At least six Palestinians were killed in Rafah, a city in southern Gaza, according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS). Many homes were also destroyed as Israeli forces moved further into Rafah and Shujayea, a northern area in Gaza.
Residents said Israeli tanks, which re-entered Shujayea four days ago, fired shells at several houses, trapping families inside and making it hard for them to leave. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimated that between 60,000 and 80,000 people had to leave their homes in Shujayea recently.
During a weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that winning the war against Hamas was the only option.
