Spain is leading a significant meeting this Friday with several Muslim and European countries to discuss ending the war in Gaza. The Spanish Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Albares, emphasized implementing a two-state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The meeting includes representatives from countries like Norway, Slovenia, and members from the European Union and the Arab-Islamic Contact Group for Gaza, such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Turkey. However, Israel was not invited to this meeting since it is not part of the contact group.
The focus is moving from talking to taking action, starting with Palestine joining the United Nations. On May 28, Spain, along with Norway and Ireland, officially recognized a Palestinian state, which includes Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem as its capital. 146 countries at the United Nations have backed this recognition. The ongoing violence in Gaza and the West Bank has made finding a peaceful solution even more crucial.
