Chicago – November 23, 2024
President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Dr. Marty Makary, a well-known surgeon and author, as the new head of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Makary, who works as a professor at Johns Hopkins University, has been recognized for his critical views on vaccine mandates and other public health policies during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Dr. Makary’s opinions often match those of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a leading environmental lawyer and vaccine critic, whom Trump has nominated to be the next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Both have spoken out against the excessive use of medication, the application of pesticides on food, and the significant influence of pharmaceutical and insurance companies on medical practices and government decisions.
In addition to Dr. Makary, President-elect Trump announced other important health-related appointments. He chose Dr. Dave Weldon, a former Republican Representative from Florida, to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Janette Nesheiwat, a Fox News contributor, was nominated to be the next Surgeon General.
President Trump praised Dr. Makary for his qualifications as a surgeon and cancer specialist. He expressed confidence that Dr. Makary would enhance the FDA’s commitment to scientific research and reduce unnecessary bureaucracy, ensuring that Americans receive the best medical treatments and innovations.
