Chicago – November 12, 2024
President-elect Donald Trump will visit Capitol Hill on Wednesday since winning the election, meeting with GOP leaders who will help shape his 2025 agenda, House Speaker Mike Johnson announced.
Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, shared on Tuesday that he expects Trump to meet with congressional Republicans in the morning. Afterward, Trump is scheduled for an 11 a.m. meeting at the White House with President Joe Biden.
“It’s going to be a great meeting and a big moment for us all,” Johnson told reporters outside the Capitol. “There’s a lot of excitement and energy here. We’re grateful for President Trump’s hard work to win this election.”
Trump’s visit comes on a busy day for lawmakers, many of whom will take office in January. In the Senate, a leadership election is set for 9:30 a.m., where Republicans will choose a new leader to replace Mitch McConnell, the longtime Kentucky senator who has led the GOP in the Senate since 2007. This meeting signals a fresh start as Trump’s team prepares to take office.
