President-elect Donald Trump is in Europe this weekend for his first overseas trip since winning the presidential election last month. He is set to meet French President Emmanuel Macron, who invited Trump to attend the grand reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The cathedral, which was heavily damaged by a fire five years ago, is now fully restored.
While First Lady Jill Biden will also attend the event, it is Trump who will be the center of attention among world leaders. This trip marks Trump’s unofficial return to the global stage and highlights his growing influence even before he officially takes office.
Brett Bruen, a former U.S. diplomat, called Macron’s invitation to Trump a significant gesture, showing how Trump is becoming a key figure on the world stage. Bruen also noted that Macron, who is facing challenges in his own country, may see Trump as an opportunity to improve U.S.-French relations.
In the meantime, President Joe Biden, who is likely on his final overseas trip before Trump’s inauguration, is being overshadowed by both Trump and his upcoming successor.
