Chicago – November 08, 2024
In 2016, Donald Trump’s rally chant was “Build the Wall,” and he used military funds to construct hundreds of miles of border wall with Mexico.
In his 2024 campaign, the phrase “Mass Deportation” became a similar rallying cry, energizing his supporters.
Now, after his election win, Trump is expected to act on these promises. An AP VoteCast survey showed his voters were focused on issues like immigration and inflation — topics he emphasized throughout his campaign.
However, exactly how and when Trump’s immigration plans will unfold remains unclear. Trump and his team have given some hints, but there are many unanswered questions about mass deportation. How would they find undocumented immigrants?
Where would they be detained? How would Trump handle countries that refuse to take back deported individuals? And where would he get the funding and officers needed for such an operation?
Trump has mentioned using the Alien Enemies Act, a law from 1798, which allows the president to deport noncitizens from hostile nations. He’s also discussed possibly using the National Guard.
According to Stephen Miller, a top adviser, Republican governors who support Trump could send troops to assist in states unwilling to cooperate.
