Chicago – November 18, 2024
On Monday, the United States announced new sanctions against organizations and individuals involved in illegal settlement activities in the occupied West Bank. Among those targeted are Amana, a major group supporting unauthorized settlements, and its subsidiary, Binyanei Bar Amana Ltd.
Amana, already sanctioned by Britain and Canada, is known for funding and supporting settlement development. Peace Now, a group tracking settlements, estimates Amana’s assets at $160 million, with an annual budget in the tens of millions. Over the years, Amana has provided loans, signed contracts, and funded infrastructure for settlements that contribute to the violence and displacement of Palestinians.
The State Department also imposed sanctions on Eyal Hari Yehuda Co., a company that supplies construction logistics to banned groups, along with its owner, Itamar Yehuda Levi. Other individuals, including nonprofit co-founder Shabtai Koshlevsky and Israeli citizen Zohar Sabah, known for violence against Palestinians, were also penalized. These actions highlight U.S. opposition to illegal settlement activities.
