The new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, stressed the importance of a ceasefire and a two-state solution in recent discussions with leaders from Israel and Palestine. Amid ongoing conflict that has claimed over 38,000 lives, Starmer conveyed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the urgent need for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and increased humanitarian aid for civilians. The UK government statement highlighted Starmer’s emphasis on establishing conditions for a long-term two-state solution, including supporting the Palestinian Authority financially.
Starmer reassured Netanyahu of the UK’s commitment to cooperation in addressing threats, though Netanyahu’s office did not state the Sunday phone call.
