Chicago – July 30, 2024
The US Senate recently passed an important bill to make the internet safer for kids. The vote was an impressive 91-3 in favor of the legislation. This bill is a big deal because it’s one of the first times in many years that Congress is taking steps to make sure tech companies help prevent harm caused by online content. The bill was supported by parents whose children were hurt by online bullying or other harmful content.
The legislation requires tech companies to do more to protect young users. They must work to prevent harm and set their platforms as safe for kids. Although the Senate has approved the bill, it’s now up to the House of Representatives to take action.
The House hasn’t decided yet if they will vote on it. However, Speaker Mike Johnson intends to work towards an agreement. President Joe Biden is also pushing for the bill to be passed soon, urging the House to act quickly. Supporters hope the strong support from the Senate will encourage the House to pass the bill before their session ends in January.
