Chicago – April 29, 2025

Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi issued a sharp response to Pakistan People’s Party leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Owaisi pointed out that Bhutto’s mother had been killed by terrorists, following Bhutto’s provocative statement: “Indus is ours and will remain ours; either our water will flow through it or our blood.”

Bhutto had made the remark after India suspended the long-standing Indus Waters Treaty of 1960. In response, Owaisi criticized Bhutto’s comments, urging him to avoid immature rhetoric. Speaking to reporters in Maharashtra, Owaisi reminded Bhutto of the violent deaths of both his grandfather and his mother, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated on December 27, 2007, in Rawalpindi after addressing a political rally.

Referring to her killing, which involved both gunfire and a suicide bombing, Owaisi argued that Bhutto should not make such inflammatory statements, questioning whether he truly understood the weight of his words and whom he was addressing.
