Chicago – March 02, 2026

India and Canada have reset strained bilateral relations with a landmark 10‑year nuclear energy agreement, under which Canada will supply uranium to fuel India’s civil nuclear power plants.

The deal, valued at about 2.6 billion dollars, was signed between Canadian nuclear major Cameco and India’s Department of Atomic Energy during Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to New Delhi. Both sides also agreed to cooperate on small modular reactors and advanced nuclear technologies as part of a broader strategic energy partnership.

The agreement is seen as a major step toward restoring trust after a diplomatic rift triggered by espionage‑related allegations in 2023. Modi and Carney further pledged to conclude a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement by year‑end and boost bilateral trade toward 50 billion dollars by 2030.
