WASHINGTON, D.C. — Jeanine Pirro was sworn in on Wednesday as the new interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., during a ceremony in the Oval Office at the White House. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi led the oath of office, with President Donald Trump standing nearby.

Pirro takes over the role after Ed Martin, President Trump’s first choice, stepped down. She promised to focus on law and order in the nation’s capital.

“We must show that justice matters in Washington, D.C.,” Pirro said after being sworn in. “There will be no more tolerance for hate and no mercy for criminals.”

She also said that crime will be dealt with firmly, and that Washington, D.C., will once again become “a shining city on a hill” as part of Trump’s promise to make America safe and strong.

Earlier this month, President Trump chose Pirro for the role. She has now left her job at Fox News, where she was a co-host on the popular show The Five. Until a new co-host is picked, other Fox News hosts will take turns filling her spot.

President Trump praised Pirro’s experience in both law and television. She was the first woman judge in Westchester County, New York, and also served as the county’s assistant district attorney and later district attorney. She joined Fox News in 2006 and hosted her own show, Justice with Judge Jeanine, for 11 years before moving to The Five.
