Chicago – March 05, 2026

President Donald Trump announced the removal of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, citing her transition to a new role as Special Envoy for “The Shield of the Americas,” a Western Hemisphere security initiative. Trump will nominate Oklahoma Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin as her replacement, effective March 31, 2026, praising both for border security achievements.

Noem faced mounting bipartisan criticism over aggressive immigration enforcement, including deadly raids in Minneapolis that killed U.S. citizens and sparked congressional hearings. Democrats and some Republicans accused her of overreach, with calls for resignation intensifying after recent testimony.

Trump’s Truth Social post thanked Noem for “spectacular results” on the border while highlighting Mullin’s qualifications. The move follows weeks of scrutiny, signaling a cabinet shift amid policy debates.
