Texas Police Officer Found Dead After Devastating Floods
The body of Odessa Police Officer Bailey Martin was recovered after he was swept away by flash flooding in the Guadalupe River near Kerrville, Texas. Martin, a native of Odessa and graduate of OPD’s 25th Session Academy, was on vacation with his family over the Fourth of July weekend when the tragedy occurred. His body was found on July 7 after a multi-agency search operation.

Search Efforts and Tributes
The search efforts involved divers, drones, and volunteers, and were supported by multiple agencies. Martin’s family members were also caught in the flood, and the department is providing support to them during this difficult time. Honor guard members and officers who knew Bailey are watching over his casket until it is released, and will then give it a police escort back to Odessa. The community is mourning the loss of the young officer, who was dedicated to serving his community.

Impact of the Floods
The floods that swept through Texas have claimed over 100 lives, with many more displaced. The Odessa Police Department has expressed condolences to Martin’s family and the community, and a memorial service is being planned to honor the fallen officer. Supporters have taken to social media to pay tribute, with #BlueLivesMatter trending in recognition of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers like Bailey Martin.
