Chicago – July 16, 2026

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to deliver a prime-time national address on Thursday focused on election security, as Republicans prepare for a challenging midterm election in November. The speech is expected to renew attention on his long-standing complaints about voting systems and election administration, with officials reportedly considering the disclosure of sensitive intelligence on China’s alleged intentions to interfere in the 2020 election.

White House sources indicated the President may use reexamined government files to argue that the country’s election infrastructure remains vulnerable, though intelligence collected during Trump’s first term did not show Beijing manipulated or changed votes. Numerous courts and vote recounts have found no evidence of large-scale fraud in the 2020 election.

Reaction from within Trump’s own party has been mixed, with some Republicans expressing concern that the address could distract from midterm priorities. Senate Majority Leader John Thune declined to comment on what advice he might offer the President, while White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt stated that “nobody knows yet” what Trump will ultimately say.

It remains unclear whether major broadcast networks will air the speech, a practice typically reserved for addresses on issues of significant national import.
