Chicago – September 06, 2025

Aryna Sabalenka successfully defended her US Open title, capturing her fourth career Grand Slam and making history as the first woman since Serena Williams to win consecutive trophies at Flushing Meadows. The world No. 1 overcame American Amanda Anisimova in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(3), in a gripping final held under the closed roof at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Sabalenka, who lost Grand Slam finals at both the Australian Open and Roland Garros earlier in the year, showed steely composure in New York despite heavy pressure. The Belarusian’s powerful serve and aggressive groundstrokes set the tone, though she briefly faltered while serving for the match at 5-4 in the second set. She quickly regrouped, dominating the final-set tiebreak and clinching victory on her third championship point, before collapsing to her knees in celebration.

For Anisimova, the defeat marked her second consecutive Grand Slam final loss, but the American eighth seed delivered a much-improved performance after her tough outing at Wimbledon in July. Despite battling nerves and a spirited home crowd, her inconsistency on key points, including five double faults, proved costly in the end.

Sabalenka now not only adds a fourth major to her career résumé but also solidifies her standing atop the women’s game, sealing her reputation as a dominant force on hard courts.
