Chicago – December 05, 2025

President Donald Trump received the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize on Friday during the 2026 World Cup draw, adding a distinctive flair to the event that determines tournament matchups.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino, a Trump ally, presented the award, praising the U.S. leader’s global peace efforts, including a Gaza ceasefire push. Trump, who has sought the Nobel Peace Prize, donned the medal and accepted a gold trophy symbolizing unity. He called it one of his life’s greatest honors, crediting family, first lady Melania Trump, and leaders from co-hosts Canada and Mexico.

The ceremony follows FIFA’s 2015 U.S. corruption scandal that elevated Infantino. Indicted official Chuck Blazer, linked to Trump Tower, faced charges like money laundering. No selection details emerged, surprising some FIFA officials.

Trump recently visited the renamed Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace for a Congo-Rwanda deal and pursues Ukraine diplomacy. This year’s Nobel went to Venezuelan leader Maria Corina Machado, who partly dedicated it to Trump.
