The Trump administration is proposing that all current and future federal employees sign non-disclosure agreements as part of a broader effort to curb leaks to the media. The Office of Personnel Management announced Tuesday that a draft NDA will be published in the Federal Register for public comment.
The agreement would apply to both new and existing employees and aims to reinforce legal obligations to protect non-public, confidential, and proprietary information obtained through official duties. Officials said the policy would still preserve employees’ rights to make disclosures authorized by law.
The proposal follows several unauthorized leaks involving internal agency communications and immigration enforcement plans at the FBI and Department of Homeland Security. OPM is also seeking feedback on whether agencies should act against employees who refuse to sign the agreement.
