Chicago – July 29, 2026

The U.S. Senate is preparing to vote on whether to hold Dr. Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress following his refusal to answer specific questions related to the federal government’s COVID-19 response. The move comes after ongoing tensions between lawmakers and the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases during recent hearings.

Several senators argue that Fauci failed to provide clear responses regarding pandemic-era policies, funding decisions, and communications with public health agencies. They claim his lack of cooperation has hindered efforts to fully assess the government’s handling of the crisis.

Fauci’s supporters, however, contend that the questions posed were politically motivated and outside the scope of legitimate oversight. They emphasize his decades of public service and leadership during one of the most challenging public health emergencies in modern history.

If approved, the contempt vote could escalate the dispute, potentially leading to legal proceedings and further congressional investigations.
